Even with the presence of signs indicating a construction zone, there may be many drivers who will wait until the last possible second to merge into the necessary lane. While in many cases, such an action may only act to infuriate others nearby, sometimes a last moment lane change could create an unfortunate situation. Car accidents involving such a scenario can have disastrous results. A recent accident in a construction zone in Illinois has left a 63-year-old man with serious injuries.
The accident reportedly took place on a recent Wednesday at around 7:30 a.m. According to reports, witnesses stated that the driver of a car refused to merge and passed several vehicles in the left lane while approaching an upcoming construction zone. Upon deciding to enter the right lane, the car reportedly swerved in front of a second vehicle, forcing the driver to slam on the brakes, which reportedly prompted a multiple vehicle collision.
The sudden stoppage reportedly caused a third vehicle to crash into the rear of a motorcycle, subsequently forcing the bike to hit the second vehicle before coming to a rest on the shoulder of the road. Law enforcement agents advised that the rider of the bike suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment. While an investigation into the crash is underway, no further details were provided.
While those who suffer serious injuries in car accidents may wish to exercise their rights to seek restitution in civil court, determining fault in a multiple car crash can be a complex process. Fortunately, a person in Illinois doesn’t necessarily have to go through this alone and retaining the services of an attorney could prove beneficial in a variety of ways. An attorney can examine the incident thoroughly and assist a client in pursuing the restitution entitled through a personal injury claim.
