When a vehicle swerves into the opposite lane of traffic, other drivers nearby may be left with little to no time to react and steer out of harm’s way. Car accidents that involve such a scenario run the unfortunate risk of endangering the safety of everyone involved. As many as three individuals suffered severe injuries during a recent head-on crash that took place under similar circumstances in Illinois.
According to reports, law enforcement agents responded to the scene of the crash on a recent Saturday morning. Initial investigations indicate that a car was traveling westbound when for unknown reasons, the driver suddenly crossed into and stopped in the middle of the opposite lane of traffic. The driver of an oncoming van was apparently unable to react in time to avoid collision and proceeded to collide head-on with the car shortly thereafter.
Authorities have advised that two of the occupants within the van suffered severe injuries in the crash. They also stated that the driver who caused the collision was also taken to a medical facility for treatment of injuries. Although an investigation into the crash is underway, it remains unclear as to whether there were any other contributing factors involved.
Car accidents involving similar forms of negligence could leave those involved with severe, or even life-altering injuries. Those who suffer such harm and wish to exercise their rights to seek accountability through the civil justice system could benefit from retaining the services of an attorney for guidance in navigating the process. An attorney in Illinois can examine the incident thoroughly and assist a client in pursuing the full amount of compensation to which he or she is entitled to receive.
