Failing to adhere to traffic signs prior to entering an intersection can be a hazardous maneuver. Those who run through a stop sign may inherently increase the risk a collision will take place, and car accidents involving such negligence run the unfortunate chance of placing the safety of those involved in harm’s way. One person died and another suffered serious injuries during a recent collision that took place at an intersection in Illinois.
According to reports, the accident took place just before 10 a.m. on a recent Monday. Law enforcement agents advised the crash occurred as the driver westbound car failed to obey a stop sign prior to entering a nearby intersection. The car proceeded to pull into the path of a northbound vehicle and the driver of the second car was unable to react in time to avoid a collision.
Police have advised that both drivers suffered severe injuries in the crash and both were rushed to the hospital for treatment. While the driver of the second vehicle remains in the hospital, authorities have advised that the driver who caused the crash passed away hours after arriving at the facility. While an investigation into the accident is underway, no further information was provided as to what might have caused it to occur.
Car accidents involving similar forms of negligence run the risk of leaving everyone involved with serious injuries and facing extensive medical expenses. Those who encounter such hardships may wish to exercise their rights to seek restitution through the civil justice system, but the process can be complex to navigate, especially alone. Fortunately, there are attorneys who can examine the incident and assist a person in Illinois in pursuing the full amount of restitution deserved through a claim against the party deemed at fault, including the estate of an at-fault driver who dies.
