When it comes to operating a vehicle while impaired, passengers may have little to no control over the decisions of the driver. When car accidents occur, these passengers, or their surviving loved ones, could end up being the ones who suffer the consequences. A 39-year-old has reportedly died following a recent single-vehicle collision involving a suspected impaired driver in Illinois.
According to Illinois State Police, the accident took place on a local interstate at around 2 a.m. on a recent Monday. Authorities say that the driver of an eastbound vehicle suddenly lost control and veered off the right side of the road. While attempting to maneuver back on course, the driver over-corrected across the lanes of traffic and proceeded to collide with a nearby guardrail.
Law enforcement agents have advised that a passenger in the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver was reportedly transported to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries. Authorities have also stated that impairment is suspected to have been a contributing factor and that the man is now facing charges for driving while under the influence of drugs.
Unfortunately, many families have been forced to endure the loss of someone close in car accidents involving impaired drivers. Following such a loss, the surviving family members of the deceased could choose to seek advice on their available legal avenues by consulting with an attorney. An attorney can examine the circumstances a client in Illinois is facing and assist in pursuing the compensation deserved through a wrongful death claim.
